Stuttgart came into the season on the back of a progressive 97-98 campaign that saw the club participate in the UEFA Cup Winners Cup.Stuttgart reached the finals and lost 1-0 to player manager Gianluca Vialli’s Chelsea. Unfortunately the season would see the club finish 11th.
